General Information
The Algarve is an ideal place for a relaxing vacation; with sandy beaches, clean ocean water, and one of the highest averages daily hours of sunlight in Europe, it offers something for everyone. Fuseta itself is a typical Algarve town on the Ria Formosa. Fishing boats leave from one end of the quay, small pleasure boats and the ferry to the barrier islands from the other.  Fuseta has a street market on Thursdays, and a flea market on the first Sunday of every month.  In the local shops you can buy typical Portuguese sweets and liquors.  After a long day at the beach, you can relax at one of the Cafés in the village’s Square.

Fuseta is conveniently situated within the greater Algarve region.  Here are some of the attractions that are close by:

The Castro Marim Nature Reserve (37 km) - a paradise for birdwatchers, this park at the mouth of the river Guadiana hosts 153 different species of bird, including flamingos, storks, avocets, dunlins, plovers, and redshanks.

Tavira (14 km) - first settled by the Carthaginians in the 8th century BC, this charming town on the Gilão river was one of the last strongholds of the moors in Portugal, and boasts a beautiful Roman bridge as well as 37 churches.

Estoi (16 km) - Contains extensive Roman ruins and an 18th century palace famous for its beautiful tilework.

Olhão (10 km) - famous for its fishing industry and Moorish architecture, Olhão is the nearest city to Fuseta.  On the waterfront it has fish and vegetable markets and a pleasant park with a seafront walkway.

Faro (17 km) - the main transportation center and leading city of the region, Faro’s airport (24 km from Fuseta) boasts connections all over Europe, and is served by Europe’s major airlines as well as the principal budget airlines.

Ria Formosa National Park - this park follows the coastline of the Algarve, stretching for over 60 km between Faro and Manta Rota.  It consists of a series of lagoons and barrier islands which offer calm waters and a habitat for an enormous number of species.  Fuseta’s lagoon and barrier island are in the park.
